Vietnamese People "ONLINE" Doubling Time Than “Watching TV”

Report by Mr. Sergio Salvador _Chief of  Google's business development in Southeast Asia, presented at the Workshop CyberAgent Net Impact (meet with the Executives of Internet companies in Vietnam and worldwide to discuss business strategy, in HCM City last weekend).

Accordingly, the statistics in 2010 with the participation of 1,094 Vietnamese - It found that  81% of them spend time with Internet , while time spent for TV is 57% and 36% for newspapers and magazines, radio is 12%.

The average time to go Internet is 5.6 hours per day and nearly every day in the week  ( reached 36 hours / week). While, people usually spend only 2.7 hours per day to watch TV  (reached 14 hours / week), and time for newspapers, magazines is 1.5 hours/day , time to listen radio is a little lower: 1.4 hours a day.

Google also assesses that the e-commerce market in Vietnam is growing very quickly, in 2009 only 16% of people use Internet to search information and shopping online, but one year after, that number up to 73%.

“Up to 80% of users searching for features of  products they’re looking via the Internet before making an order " said Salvador said.

Representatives from Google also said that a successful business have be four basic steps: website internationalization, find and capture the needs, measurement and refinement. Things to do in order to internationalize the site is: clear language, using your target market terms ( as using cell phone or mobile phone), listing price, currency, language translation.
